Fare Changes Begin September 1

Single Ride Fares

Purchase a single ride fare when you don’t need access to transit for more than a couple of routes.

Day Passes

You can purchase a day pass to ride on any of our vehicles. Passes are good for the day of purchase and allow you to ride all day. From your morning commute to after work activities, pay one low fare and get where you’re going quickly and easily.

Monthly Passes

Monthly passes are a convenient way to get unlimited access to transit for the entire month. We offer two options:

Monthly Pass

Valid from the first day to the last day of the month. On sale beginning the 20th of each month.


30-Day Pass

Valid for 30 consecutive days from the day of purchase. These are sold at any time.  Compass Cards may hold a maximum of two 30-Day passes at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I previously bought the SPRINTER/BREEZE monthly/30-day pass, what should I buy now for the same service?

Customers can now purchase the Regional monthly/30-day pass which gives them access to SPRINTER, BREEZE, MTS Trolley, MTS Regular buses, and MTS Rapid.

Why is the senior age 65+ or born on/before September 1, 1959?

The new version of the Regional Fare Ordinance approved by the SANDAG, NCTD, and MTS Boards updated the age of eligibility for senior fares to 65+. However, those who were 60 years of age or more prior to September 1, 2019 previously received the benefit and will continue to qualify for the discount.

What age qualifies for the Youth fares?

Youth fares are available for those ages 6-18, with a valid school or transit ID. Children under 6 may ride free on all bus, light rail, and commuter services when traveling with a paying passenger.

Will there be refunds for Youth monthly passes purchased prior to September 1 that are lowered in the fare change?

No, any pass purchased prior to September 1, 2019 will be charged at the current rate.  To receive the new, lower Youth rate, the pass must be purchased on/after September 1, 2019.

How do I get the SDM/Youth fares on the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app?

In order to access the reduced fare 30-day passes on Compass Cloud, you need to visit Customer Service to provide proof of eligibility to enroll.  Once this step has been completed, you will receive an email with code allowing you access to these fares. The discounted day passes will be available without this enrollment; however, proof of eligibility to use the discounted day pass is still required and may be requested on-board any vehicle.

How can I purchase the new discounted Regional 1-Day Pass for SDM and Youth?

You can reload your existing SDM or Youth Compass Card at any Ticket Vending Machine, on-board the bus, over the phone by contacting the Compass Service Center at (619) 595-5636, in-person at Customer Service, or at any third-party outlet that sells Compass Card products.

I’m enrolled in automatic reload for my monthly/30-day pass. Do I need to do anything to make sure my pass still automatically reloads?

No, all current enrollees for automatic reload will continue to be enrolled.  Beginning September 1, 2019, the appropriate new rate will automatically be charged.  If you are enrolled in an automatic reload for a product that is being discontinued (ex. 2, 3, 4, 14-day passes or the SPRINTER/BREEZE pass), please contact Customer Service.

Is anything changing for MTS fares?
