The COASTER commuter train provides breathtaking coastal scenery as it runs north-south, serving eight stations between Oceanside and downtown San Diego. More than 20 trains run on weekdays, with additional service on the weekends. It takes about an hour to travel the entire COASTER route.

On the following holidays, the COASTER, SPRINTER and BREEZE will all offer a Sunday/holiday service schedule:

- July 4th Independence Day
- Labor Day
On the following holidays, the COASTER does not provide service while SPRINTER/BREEZE operate a holiday service schedule:
- New Year's Day
- Thanksgiving Day (modified COASTER schedule runs on the day after Thanksgiving)
- Christmas Day
