Rules & Tips
Before you ride the BREEZE, make sure to read the latest Rider's Guide or the route maps and schedules on this web site to plan your trip. Some BREEZE bus routes have service every 15 or 30 minutes, while others are less frequent.
Buses stop wherever you see the blue and white NCTD bus stop signs.
Stops are located every few blocks on city routes. Bus stops may be
several miles apart in rural areas.
Be at the bus stop a least five minutes early. An electronic display
above the front window of the bus tells you the route number and
destination of the bus. Check the sign carefully to make sure you're
getting on the right bus. Feel free to ask the bus driver if you are
boarding the right bus.
If you ride the bus at night, be sure to wear light colored clothing.
It's helpful to carry a flashlight for your safety, and to make it
easier to flag the bus.
The bus is allowed to stop only at NCTD BREEZE bus stops. Also, the bus
is not allowed to stop again once it has pulled away from the bus stop.
This includes bus stops at transit shelters.

Seating
Federal law reserves the front seats for senior citizens and the
disabled. Please take only one seat for both you and your belongings. If
you are traveling with a baby, take him or her out of the stroller. If
you must stand, please make sure you are behind the white line, and hold
on to a post or handrail for the entire trip. Do not stand up or change
seats while the bus is moving. Please remain seated until the bus comes
to a complete stop.
Buses that travel through Camp Pendleton can be searched at any time by
military authorities. Law enforcement officials are also allowed to stop
the bus and question riders if necessary. Be prepared to show valid
picture I.D. when traveling on BREEZE routes entering Camp Pendleton.

At Your Destination
Watch for your destination. If you're not sure where it is, ask the
coach operator when you first get on the bus to announce your stop.
About a block away from your stop, pull the yellow cord or press the rubber
strip next to the window. This will sound the buzzer, and the driver
will pull over at the next stop. If the driver can't stop in time, the
bus will stop at the next available bus stop, and you can get off there.
Once the bus has come to a complete stop, walk to the back door. Push on
the door bar to open it. Hold onto the bar until you are clear of the
steps.

Getting From Here to There
You may need to take more than one bus to get to where you're going. Use
your Day Pass to transfer at any stop where one route connects with
another. (Single Ride fares do not allow you to transfer from one bus to another.) Locations where two or more bus routes meet up with each other
are identified by a "T" on the bus stop signs and on the route maps and schedules in
the Rider's Guide.

Bicycles
All NCTD BREEZE buses have bike racks that hold up to two (2) bikes. You don't need a permit and there
is no charge to use them. Space in the racks is available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Children ten and younger using a bike must be
accompanied by an adult and you must be strong enough to load your own
bike. Riders use the bike rack at their own risk. NCTD is not
responsible for damaged or lost bicycles as a result of using the racks.

Wheelchairs
All BREEZE buses can accommodate wheelchairs. Buses can carry one (1) to
three (3) wheelchairs. If there are no wheelchair spaces left on the bus you
want to ride, and the next regularly scheduled bus won't work for you,
the bus driver will make special arrangements so you can get to your
destination. If you wish to use the wheelchair lift or ramp, ask the bus
driver to lower it for you. You may also ask for help getting on the
lift and using the securement system. Once on board, go to the special
section for wheelchairs and use the locks to secure your chair. Bus
restraint systems are used in the wheelchair locking mechanism.

Trip Planning
The NCTD BREEZE Riders' Guide has all the information you need to plan
your trip in North County. A map and time schedule is provided for every
BREEZE route in the Rider's Guide and on the route maps and schedules web pages.
Particular route schedules are also available in larger print upon
request by contacting the Customer Service Office at (760) 966-6500.
Copies of the NCTD Rider's Guide are available year-round at the NCTD
Customer Service Office located at 810 Mission Avenue in Oceanside, at
all NCTD transit centers and on all BREEZE buses. The Rider's Guide and
all BREEZE routes are updated three times each year.
There is also an online trip-planning feature available through the
regional transit web site Transit.511sd.com for all San Diego County
destinations.
Six Steps for Planning Your Trip:
1. Use the Rider's Guide or route maps and schedules web pages to determine which route you want
to use.
2. Look at the time schedule for the route or routes you are planning to
use. Look for the day of the week (Monday through Friday, or Saturday,
or Sunday). NCTD follows the Sunday schedule on major holidays.
3. Next, look for the direction you wish to travel: east or west; clockwise or counterclockwise, etc.
4. Find the intersection nearest to where you want to catch the bus.
There are usually several bus stops between each of the time points
listed in the schedule.
5. Read down the column to find the time closest to when you want to
leave.
Arrive at your bus stop at least five minutes before this scheduled pick-up time.
6. Read across the column to find out when your bus will arrive at where
you want to go.
If you need help deciding which route will be best, or want to find the
closest bus stop, call toll-free for route information: 511
(619-233-3004 outside of San Diego County) or use the online trip-planning feature available through the
regional transit web site Transit.511sd.com.
